Benefits

The functions integrated in the HISinOne web portal facilitate the day-to-day-tasks of stakeholders in university administration, research and tuition as well as of students; aims are therefore achieved more rapidly and efficiently.

Efficient management of resources:

HISinOne is particularly suitable for managing all kinds of resources, e. g. personnel administration, global budget, administrative accounting, management of tuition fees, equipment, rooms and buildings.

Support for strategic enterprise planning:

HISinOne ships with an integrated Business Intelligence and Data Warehouse for aggregating, evaluating and reporting control-relevant process data. Trends can be observed at an early stage, structural changes are enacted more straightforward, and communication with interior and exterior stakeholders is simplified.

Management of student life cycles:

HISinOne maps all aspects of a typical student lifecycle including complex applicant selection with differentiated criteria. The system offers a broad range of convenient functions especially for managing modular courses of studies.

Visibility and internationalization:

HISinOne combines easy customizability and a high degree of integration. This ensures a rapid implementation of a corporate design. Through the integration of an alumni-management-system, universities can keep in touch with graduates and therefore with potential sponsors, new customers or personnel. Easy internationalization is provided by using UTF-8 encoding and valid XHTML 1.0 with CSS. Both enable universities to further raise their profile and to assert themselves internationally.

Simplification of workflows:

HISinOne ships with a unified, easy to use GUI that reflects Human-Computer-Interaction principles and has been designed following use cases and user feedback. The renewed GUI is completely barrier-free, allows easy internationalization (through usage of UTF-8) and supports optional active content (JavaScript/AJAX/Web 2.0-technologies). With the renewed data-model, workflows are streamlined, day-to-day-tasks become easier to achieve and some work steps have become obsolete. All tasks that were previously tied to a certain time and place are now de-centralized, e. g.: applications for a place at university, payment of tuition fees, management of courses (including the allocation of places in restricted courses) and examinations, keeping in touch with alumni (through the integrated alumni-management-system).

Openness:

HISinOne makes use of well-established open source-technologies and is independent from platforms and operating systems. It contains open interfaces and interchange formats, increasing the interoperability, longevity and security of the application.

Cooperation with universities:

HISinOne is the achievement of joint efforts and has been conceived, developed and tested in cooperation with numerous universities of different sizes and forms of organization. HIS works on a non-profit basis, reinvesting all revenue for additional services. This facilitates an open-source-oriented development-process where improvements made in one area of development, e. g. by satisfying special needs of one customer, find their way into the main line of the application and can be used by future customers without any additional cost. HISinOne therefore continues the chosen path of a technological advanced and yet reasonably priced software offering, whose development is in-line with universities' interests and requirements.

Solid yet flexible framework:

HISinOne ships with pre-fabricated configurations that allow for a broad range of use cases with little need for additional customization. Further adaptation is simplified by web-based configuration-tools for every application level (including the users themselves).

Integration on all levels:

One of the outstanding characteristics of HISinOne is the integration both on technological and organizational level. In addition to integration of technologies (JAVA, service-oriented-architecture, web services), data (centralized database) and stakeholders (integrated identity management system, development in cooperation with universities), HIS reorganized its product spectrum and consolidated available resources and capabilities into one system, thus being able to offer one integrated application that fits all university requirements.
